  15. You are currently using TurboPrint Professional 5 LIGHT.
  16. This version contains many features of the full version and
  17. should give you an idea of TurboPrint's powerful features
  18. and perfect print quality.

  20. The full version Turboprint Professional 5 offers you:

  22. * Preview, layout and print your pictures with the powerful
  23.   Graphics Publisher. Supports many file formats up to 24 bit /
  24.   16 million colours, e.g. IFF, GIF, PCX, BMP, JPEG and PhotoCD
  25. * Select individual brightness and colour for each picture
  26. * Print posters up to 64 pages in size
  27. * Hardcopy and screen grabbing functions
  28. * Comprehensive manual with lots of hints for the best printouts

  37. Chapter 2: Installation
  38. =======================

  40. The installation procedure needs Installer V43.3 or higher!
  41.                                  --------------------------
  42. Installer V43.3 is included with the Turboprint disk. If you are using the
  43. "MCP" utility, you will have to copy the new Installer to your hard disk
  44. or deactivate MCP temporarily.

  47. Chapter 8: Hints for Printers
  48. =============================
  49.  
  50. Canon BJ monochrome inkjet printers
  51. -----------------------------------
  52.  
  53. The emulation must be set to "Canon BJ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
  54. see your printer's manual).
  55. The international charset must be set to "Set 2" at the printer 
  56. (DIP switch).
  57. In TurboPrint, choose the driver "Canon_BJ".
  58.  
  59. Newer models (BJ-10ex, BJ-2xx, BJ-3xx) can also be used in EPSON LQ mode,
  60. which offers more fonts. To use EPSON LQ mode, the printer must be switched 
  61. to "LQ" mode (DIP switches, see your printer's manual). Choose the
  62. "Epson_LQ,SQ" driver in TurboPrint.
  63.  
  64. Canon BJC colour inkjet printers
  65. --------------------------------
  66.  
  67. The emulation must be set to "LQ" mode at the printer (DIP switches,
  68. see your printer's manual).
  69.  
  70. Canon BJC - newer models without DIP switches (BJC 210, 240, 4100, 4200)
  71. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

  73. These printers must be configured to the "LQ-Europe/Asia" mode.
  74. The following procedure must be carried out once:
  75.  
  76. When switching on the printer, keep the POWER button pressed. Soon the 
  77. printer will start "beeping". Wait until you have heard 8 beep sounds, 
  78. then release the POWER button.
  79.  
  80. To check your printer's configuration, switch off the printer. Then keep 
  81. the POWER button pressed until you have heard 2 beep sounds. The printer 
  82. will then print a status sheet.
  83.  
  84. Canon BJC 240 and 4200 with photo cartridge
  85. -------------------------------------------
  86.  
  87. Use the driver Canon_BJC240photo or Canon_BJC4200photo when printing with 
  88. the photo cartridge.
  89. For best printouts use the "Canon HR-101" or a similiar inkjet paper.
  90. Unfortunately, we don't know any glossy papers that are suitable for 
  91. printouts with the photo cartridge.

  94. Citizen Printiva600c

  97. When making colour printouts, please note the following:

  99. * Spool files
  100.  
  101. The driver creates four spool file for the four colour components of a page.
  102. You can change the path of the spool files. Enter the path and filename
  103. in the text gadget "print to file" on the file card "printer".
  104. It is recommended to spool to a hard drive, as the spool files can become very
  105. large.
  106.  
  107. Example: If you have entered "Name" = "Work:Prt",
  108. four spoolfiles named "Prt.0", "Prt.1", "Prt.2" and "Prt.3" will be created
  109. on the hard drive partition named "Work:".
  110.  
  111. Epson Stylus Color
  112. ------------------
  113.  
  114. The unprintable margin at the top of the paper can be set at the printer
  115. to 3mm (0.1") or 8.5mm (0.35") - see your printer's manual for details.

  118. Epson Stylus Color II
  119. ---------------------
  120.  
  121. If you use plain paper, the black ink may bleed into the coloured inks.
  122. This effect depends on the kind of paper you use.
  123. To avoid bleeding, use an inkjet paper or choose the driver 
  124. "Epson_StylusColorIIs". This driver generates black by mixing yellow,
  125. magenta and cyan inks.

  128. Epson Stylus Color IIs

  131. For colour prints, choose the driver "Epson_StylusColorIIs".
  132. For b/w prints, choose the driver "Epson_Stylus820+IIs".
  133. The maximum resolution of the printer is 360x720dpi.

  136. Epson Stylus Color 400, 600 und 800
  137. -----------------------------------

  139. * Inkjet papers:
  140.   You can use all non-glossy inkjet papers with these printers.
  141.   In Turboprefs please choose "720dpi Paper" or "360dpi Paper".
  142.   Glossy inkjet papers: At the moment we can only recommend EPSON's
  143.   "High Quality Glossy Paper". We have tested other glossy papers,
  144.   but the results were poor.
  145.  
  146. * 1440dpi mode (only Stylus Color 600 und 800):
  147.   The 720x1440dpi mode must be enabled in the "printer settings".
  148.   This mode normally doesn't increase print quality very much. 
  149.   The reason is that already at 720dpi Turboprint uses the smallest
  150.   possible ink drops ("Microdots").
  151.   Please note that printing at 1440dpi doubles print times.
  152.

  154. HP-Deskjet - newer models (540C,600C,660C,850C)
  155. -----------------------------------------------
  156.  
  157. The maximum resolution of these printers (600x300dpi resp. 600x600dpi)
  158. can be used only for black&white printouts.
  159.  
  160. If you get b/w printouts instead of colour printouts when using
  161. applications like Final Writer or Wordworth, you will have
  162. to reduce the print resolution or "density" within the application.
  163.  
  164.  
  165. Head cleaning & cartridge alignment
  166. -----------------------------------
  167. With the new DeskJet printers, it is no longer possible to start
  168. the print head cleaning or cartridge alignment procedure
  169. at the printer.
  170. For this purpose we programmed the "DeskJet-Utility" you can find
  171. in the "Extra" drawer of Turboprint.

  174. HP-Deskjet 850C,870Cxi
  175. ----------------------
  176.  
  177. At 300x300dpi a "colour resolution enhancement technique" is used, 
  178. which varies the ink drop size and thus produces finer dithering.
  179.  
  180. If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
  181. poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the 
  182. paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
  183. black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.

  186. HP_Deskjet 660C,690C,694C
  187. -------------------------
  188.  
  189. If you print on glossy inkjet papers or transparencies or if you get
  190. poor results on other inkjet papers, it is important to switch the 
  191. paper type to "glossy" or "transparency". This means that
  192. black will be generated as a mixture of yellow, magenta and cyan.

  198. If you use a "diffuse" dithering pattern, you should disable the switch
  199. "pure black". You will get more brilliant colours.

  202. HP Deskjet 690C,694C with photo cartridge

  205. Use the driver "HP_DeskJet690,694photo" when printing with the photo 
  206. cartridge.

  208. For best printouts use the "HP Photo Paper" or a non-glossy paper, e.g. 
  209. "HP Premium Inkjet Paper".
  210. Most other glossy papers will produce poor results.

  214. Lexmark 4076 - ExecJet IIc
  215. --------------------------

  217. Choose the "parallel" instead of the "turbo-par" port (filecard "printer")
  218. if printouts are slow.
  219. This is necessary because the printer's parallel interface doesn't use all
  220. control lines.
  221.  
  222.  
  223. Fargo Primera / Pro / FotoFUN
  224. -----------------------------
  225.  
  226. *** Important ***
  227.  
  228. The printer must receive data continuously. If printer pauses during
  229. the printout, a noticeable horizontal line will appear on the image. 
  230. For this reason, you should not disturb your Amiga while the printer is active.
  231.  
  232. * FotoFUN:
  233.  
  234. The printer needs a very high parallel transfer rate that can't be achieved
  235. by Turboprint. Please redirect your printouts to a file and send the file
  236. to the parallel port using Fargo's "SendFFF" program. "SendFFF" is included
  237. in Fargo's Amiga driver disk.
  238.  
  239. * Spool files
  240.

  260. gadget in Turboprefs.
  261. You might need to increase this setting if you print on plain paper
  262. (wax transfer mode).
  263. For the photorealistic mode we recommend heat setting 4 (medium).

  265. * Ribbon type
  266.  
  267. There are 5 different ribbon types for the primera, which can be set
  268. using the "medium" switch in TurboPrefs (filecard "Config").
  269.  
  270. Monochrome:   wax transfer black
  271. 3-Colour:     wax transfer with yellow, magenta and cyan
  272. 4-Colour:                -"-   plus black
  273. Photo B/W:    b&w sublimation for photorealistic printouts
  274. Photo Colour: colour sublimation for photorealistic printouts
  275.  
  276. We recommed to choose "3-Colour" setting even for 4-Colour ribbon. 
  277. This produces more brilliant colours.
  278.  
  279. * 600-DPI
  280.  
  281. We do not recommend the 600dpi mode, as it is very slow and produces
  282. printouts that are almost identical to the 300dpi mode.

  288. Chapter 9: Hints for applications

  291. Final Writer / Wordworth

  294. The print resolution is chosen in FinalWriter/WW, NOT in TurboPrefs.

  296. Final Writer/WW with HP Deskjet
  297. -------------------------------

  299. If you get b/w printouts instead of colour printouts on a DeskJet 540/660/850
  300. you will have to reduce the print resolution (see "Hints for printers").
  301.  
  302. We recommend to set the top text margin to zero (TurboPrefs, file card "Text").
  303. This way you will get the correct top margin.
  304.  
  305. Final Writer/WW with Epson Stylus Color / Pro
  306. ---------------------------------------------
  307.  
  308. We recommend a maximum resolution of 360dpi. Otherwise you will get very
  309. slow and usually oversaturated printouts.
  310.  
  311. If you print with 720dpi, you should change the dithering from "diffuse"
  312. to "ordered" to speed up printing.
